Spotlight tells the story of the Boston Globe investigation into the conspiracy to cover up priests’ sex abuse. It’s surprisingly interesting. It gives enough detail about the abuse to give you a sense how bad it was, but doesn’t dwell on it. The focus is on the conspiracy from the archdiocese and the investigative process. The latter of which is probably the unspoken message of the film, that this kind of journalism is dying and we’re worse off for it.
Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, and some guy I don’t know are the team of journalists who broke the story, John Slattery and Liev Schreiber are their editors, and Stanley Tucci, Billy Crudup, and Captain Eyepatch from L&O:CI are lawyers.
