Pointless Nonsense

nightly-showThe Nightly Show is Comedy Central’s replacement for The Colbert Report, with Larry Wilmore. It kind of borrows Bill Maher’s panel format, but with John Oliver’s focus on a single issue. Which is interesting enough. I like the single issue format, because Colbert often covered the same stories as Stewart, and sometimes even made the same jokes. But by doing one story per night, even if it’s one you’ve just seen covered on The Daily Show, doing an entire half hour on it means Nightly will go a lot more in depth. It’ll take some time, I think, for the show to really work out all the kinks. I think Wilmore’s thoughts are interesting and the jokes are solid, but he’s not great with the panelists so far. But that’s the way it goes for a lot of new talk show hosts. So I’ll definitely be watching, and hopefully it’ll eventually be as strong as Colbert was.
