Pointless Nonsense

gettingonGetting On is a new-ish HBO series that I procrastinated trying out because it didn’t look that good and also because Mass Effect. But I did get a chance to watch the pilot yesterday, and it’s… ok. Not good enough to bother keeping up with, but it’s not without merit. Alex Borstein stars as a nurse in a particularly depressing part of a hospital (I’ve forgotten what exactly, but they seem to deal with old ladies who are mentally unstable and also dying), Laurie Metcalf is the doctor running the unit who thinks it’s a dead end job and doesn’t want to be there, and this lady from Reno 911 is the new nurse who is the least crazy person on the show. I think it’s technically a comedy, but obviously kind of a morbid one. I do like the gallows humor, and there are a few laughs to be had (mostly related to feces and people wanting to die), but overall I didn’t find it enjoyable to watch.
