Pointless Nonsense

Blood and Chrome is the failed pilot for another Battlestar Galactica prequel, this one set during the first cylon war, which is now being aired in pieces on youtube. There are two problems with this. First, the pilot was apparently filmed to be shown at 10:00pm, using the now-standard cable practice of being able to say “shit.” But the youtube channel showing it appears uncomfortable with that. And they have chosen a weird way to censor it. Someone on the deck of Galactica refers to a broken down raptor as a “piece of sh-[WRENCH CLANG].” And every other obscenity is broken up that way with the sudden intrusion of a background noise. Silencing it or even a beep would be so much less annoying. The other big problem is that each youtube episode ends with a preview for the next. And the first one shows you a scene about 90% of the way into episode 2. So that means if I’m going to follow this, I have to scramble for the pause button as soon as they start showing the preview for the next one (and the transition is really abrupt.).

But I do like it so far, even though it’s a prequel, and prequels are generally dumb. Mostly I like how it captures a lot of the spirit of the original by setting it at a time in the war when things are going badly. So you get action and the sense that anyone (except Adama) could die at any second.
