Pointless Nonsense

Hanna is a movie I can’t help but think of as a dark, non-comedic, non-superhero Kick-Ass, just because it features a young blonde girl/ruthless killing machine. Unlike Hit Girl, Hanna is kind of a monster, and I think you’re meant to root for in spite of finding her terrifying.

The action scenes are pretty awesome, in a way that shouldn’t be awesome. Long shots with no cuts and smooth camera movement that actually allow you to see what’s happening, rather than 5 cuts a second and the camera whipping all over the place just hoping to make you feel disoriented.

Two things I didn’t like: Saoirse Ronan’s extreme paleness was creepy, and Cate Blanchett’s attempt at what I can only guess is a Texas drawl was pretty bad. Which is weird, because she’s a very good actor, and having her play the part with a generic American accent would have been fine (or even a British accent wouldn’t be that big a deal).
