Pointless Nonsense

Man Up! is about three men in their 30s dealing with the fact that they’re not particularly manly. I think it is, anyway, the pilot didn’t really do much to establish what the show is about, I’m mostly just assuming based on the title. When I saw Victor Fresco (the guy who created Andy Richter Controls the Universe and Better Off Ted) pop up in the credits, my hopes were briefly raised, but the pilot wasn’t actually funny, the cast didn’t stand out in any way, and the general lack of premise is uninspiring. It wasn’t created by Fresco, though, so maybe it gets better when he starts contributing, but I won’t be around to see that.

The show does open with the three guys playing some sort of Call of Duty-ish game (with headsets on, shot from the POV of the screen, cutting between the three of them at their respective homes), and I actually kinda think that might have been how the show got greenlit. Some douchebag in a suit having just seen how much money the gaming industry makes and thinking a show that can pick up that demographic might be a hit.
