Pointless Nonsense

Person of Interest is a show I’m going to confuse with Prime Suspect, just because of the similar titles. But the shows aren’t very similar at all. Michael Emerson (Ben Linus) plays a mysterious man with access to information about upcoming murders who hires human ass-kicking machine Jim Caviezel (Jesus) to save the people before they die. The pilot is slick and professional and the plot is well-constructed. I have two complaints. First, the magical murder prediction machine concept is ridiculous, and I wish they’d just cracked a joke about how crazy the idea is and then just accepted it, but instead the mystery of it was a big part of the pilot, which just constantly drew attention to how silly it is. Second, Jesus shoots a lot of people in the leg, and they’re instantly removed from the fight, even when they were holding guns. I’m not saying getting shot in the leg is a walk in the park, but I think one could roll over, pick up your gun, and shoot a guy. Otherwise, it’s a very strong pilot, but J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan will likely have nothing to do with the everyday running of the show, so the quality may drop off sharply. I hope I’m wrong, because I’m in for a while.
