Pointless Nonsense

Cowboys and Aliens seemed like a concept that, with a good writer, good director, and good cast, could result in a perfectly fun movie. But it’s not. There were some ok moments, Olivia Wilde is as attractive as she always is, and there was even a brief appearance by the underrated Toby Huss, but I guess the lesson here is that 10 different writers and an incredibly complicated journey to the big screen leads to mediocre movies.

I’m glad I read that article you linked. I read the graphic novel and was incredibly underwhelmed, and wondered why someone thought it was a good idea to adapt the graphic novel to a movie. Glad to see there were other reasons for that stupid decision.

Yeah… I thought overall it had potential, but just failed. The amnesia did not feel drama inducing, it just felt like sloppy writing. And the aliens needed a rewrite and some sort of consistency… Olivia Wilde says they want gold and they will wipe out humanity… And then the aliens seem so erratic in their behavior. They act like strange half dogs / half Aliens some of the time, like scientists in some scenes, and like military scouts with sophisticated weapons other times, and we get no real information about them. If there is a worker subclass vs. a warrior class or something like that to help us understand why the variance in behavior…

For $6, I’m as glad to have seen it and learned that it was bad then to have to wonder if i would have liked it :)

The opening felt like those cheesy 80s “Find your Own Adventure Books”:

“You awaken in a field with no memory of how you got there. You have a strange metallic bracelet attached to your wrist, what do you do?

    a) Try to take the bracelet off.
    b) Look around for landmarks.”

“While you are trying to remove the bracelet the ruckus you make while hitting it with rock seems to have alerted some individuals. They arrive on horseback and…”

    Oh well!
