Pointless Nonsense

Rango is probably the best looking computer-animated movie I’ve ever seen. They play with lighting, color palettes, and generally use a lot of the tricks of regular cinematography that Pixar movies tend not to use. As great as Pixar movies are, they generally have a static look throughout. Rango has hazy dream sequences and different colors for different locations and really just looks fantastic. It has an actual visual style. Unfortunately, the story was underwhelming. It’s a western at heart, and I think it’s filled with references to classic westerns that I just don’t get. I just hope that the look of the thing rubs off on other computer animated movies and we get more that look this good.
