Pointless Nonsense

Alphas is the new show SyFy is using to anchor their summer Mondays of original programming, following Eureka and Warehouse 13, and it’s quite disappointing. It’s X-men without the metaphors for puberty or for racism/prejudice. It’s Heroes without the discovery of the powers (which, looking back, was practically the only thing the show did right). And it takes itself pretty seriously, too. Eureka and Warehouse 13 work despite covering well-worn SciFi/Fantasy territory because they have fun with it. Alphas is not the least bit fun, and that is why it’s not very good. That, and the only character that had piqued my interest dying.

But I’m an idiot and will probably watch the whole first season before I get fed up and quit, just like I did with Haven, another too-serious SyFy show.
