Pointless Nonsense

In The American, George Clooney plays a black market gunsmith, who like so many other lawbreaking characters, seems to have a weakness for the ladies (as would anyone, I think, in the presence of Violante Placido). Despite having a poster where he’s running with a gun, there are, I think, three scenes of any kind of action. It’s a very slow moving movie.

I liked a few of the details they worked into the movie. My favorite aspect was the way they had Clooney handle a gun in a fight. Most movie characters either fight brutally, gracefully, or cowardly, but he looked a little bit scared, a little bit awkward, and still effective.

But despite some appreciation for the craft, overall I found it pretty boring. It was only 105 minutes but it felt like 150 at least.
