Pointless Nonsense

Cyrus stars John C. Reilly as a guy who, 7 years after his divorce, is still not over it at all, Marissa Tomei as the new girl who helps him put his life back together, and Jonah Hill as her son who sabotages their relationship. It also featured the non-Catalina wife from The League in a tiny, tiny part, which seemed confusing until I learned that it was co-written and co-directed by this guy from The League.

Oddly, despite League connections and Jonah Hill being in it, it’s not all that funny, and it didn’t really seem to be trying to be that funny either. At least not in a traditional way. It seems to just want to create really awkward situations that aren’t Office-style over the top awkward, just really uncomfortable. Which was disappointing, because I really liked the first 20 minutes or so prior to introducing the son.
